United State of Man U Blog #4
I would say by now we all are aware the Premier League came to a screeching halt this past weekend. The Queen of England has since passed. A whole 70 years in the monarchy. Now that is a long time to be in charge. RIP QUEEN. If further Prem games are postponed, that really puts a huge emphasis on Manchester United getting things back into gear in Europe. There really must be a sense of urgency as they fell to Spanish opposition Real Sociedad mid-week 1 NIL. And if the postponements for the Premier League continue this weekend, the next Prem fixture for United would be at the Ethiad vs Manchester City on Sunday October 2n at 9:00am. If we play Leeds this upcoming Sunday, HEY all the better. I will report on it in a later blog. But I can’t even front, that matchup vs City is going to be a battle (I PRAY) so CMON UNITED!!!!
After getting twisted up at home to Real Sociedad, a much-needed away win should be in store here this upcoming Thursday 9/15. I can’t even hear anything else outside of a win because yeah, that’s just how I feel. Back-to-Back L’s in Europe really won’t sit well and neither would a tie. United travel to Moldova to face FC Sheriff. A club based in the city of Tiraspol, and it should be noted FC Sheriff were only founded in 1997. Quite impressive. IYKYK, but these guys really took it to defending European Champions Real Madrid in the group stages of Champions League last year. It’s against these teams where United must roll their sleeves up and put in work. I just want to see the team play with passion and play with purpose. From what I’ve seen so far, I have every reason to believe they will. Erik ten Hag is a savior. But doing all those things I just mentioned doesn’t always get you results. Putting the ball in the back in the net does.
Which leads to Ronaldo. And I don’t want to make it a focal point, but this guy really needs to bag a goal, or even just an assist. Please, GIVE US SOMETHING!!! The amount of chances Ronaldo had vs Sociedad; I mean the ball should have been in the back of the net. No questions asked. So, I am calling for Ronaldo again to please just come correct for this next game. He might not even get the start after given a full 90 (vs Sociedad) and not making it count. Should he come off the bench, then DO SOMETHING MY GUY! As for other parts of the squad, I would like to see Fred and Casemiro in the central midfield for this game. I don’t care if it’s Bruno or Eriksen as the CAM but give me either one of them there. Rashford really should get the start up front. Depending on if United’s fixture vs Leeds is postponed, United have a decision to make on Antony. But I would not be surprised if ten Hag just starts Antony for the rest of week. I trust in my coach to make the right decision. I fully expect Lisandro to make a start with Varane to make things right in the back, while Malacia and Dalot keep their place. Young talent Alejandro Garnacho could also be a surprise start. He brings a youth element mixed in with raw attacking talent. So, watch out for that. I am calling for a 2 nil United result vs Sheriff on Thursday.
Should the Prem games go on this upcoming weekend, United are set to host Leeds. Leeds have shown all season they will punch you right in the face. On the flipside, Leeds have taken a few licks themselves. Should make for an entertaining game. Liverpool is away to Chelsea and that should speak for itself. Diego Costa will hopefully be starting up front as Wolverhampton host Manchester City. However, none of this goes down if the Prem is posptponed.
